Captain Delancey Cover by TheSteveYurko Captain Delancey Cover by TheSteveYurko
I'm trying to be a comic artist, yet I've hardly put enough comic pages on here! Time to dust off the stuff that's been waiting around, and I don't know why I didn't upload these sooner.

This was a short story I did for my Graphic Storytelling class, taught by none other than Walt freakin' Simonson. I can't stress enough just how much he pushed me to be better. When I thought I had something right, he'd find a dozen other things to fix. Definitely helped me go out with a bang my senior year.

It's no surprise that One Piece is a big influence on this piece, but I was actually inspired to do this story after watching The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (which I'm sure Oda has watched too). And in case you're wondering, pirate ships are a bitch to draw. Can't tell you how many times Walt busted my balls 'til I got something "not bad."

This comic was drawn from February to May 2011.

This cover is actually incomplete, but I wound up losing the layered file, and only had the flat version. I said "Cies la vie," and moved on.

I remember when you showed this off at Otakon! Still looks as great as I remember!

Don't forget about the links I sent you. Lots of work in comic art to be found there!

Aw, I should've just given you one (They're cheap to make, SHHHHHHHH). I had a really tough time getting the ship right. The most important rule of it all is "Reference, Reference, Reference!!!" It was really hard finding some good images, but I wound up finding some model pictures of the Queen Anne's Revenge, and the HMS Victory. [link] I can't stress enough how much those shots helped.

I also remember there being a sail ship at Inner Harbor during Otakon, so I was sure to take a few pics.
